Off To Tokyo

I can't believe April's almost coming to an end and this is my first trip to Japan! Ever since the semi big move to Seattle, my traveling schedule has slowed down quite a little... no complains on my end though... I enjoy my old and new friends in Seattle and there is always something to do even when I'm alone. Of course, the cloudy, rainy weather helps my mood tremendously :) Can't say I'm looking forward to the summer but at least I'll have fall and winter to look forward to then lol.

I don't know what I'm looking forward to doing more in Japan... seeing friends or eating all the endless delicious food. Ok, I guess I can see friends and eat good food :) We'll see some of the king's good friends... my friend Julia who is a lot of fun to hang out with 'coz she's nice and also fluent in Japanese; I like to call her my private babysitter lol - the king is ever so thankful I now have a friend in Tokyo so I'm not constantly his little shadow following his every step he takes lol! So J leads, I walk and we just have a good girlie time... and of course, like all my other (Singaporean) friends, good food is always on the agenda :)

We're sitting here at American Airlines' flagship lounge killing time. Another hour to go. I've had so much to eat now that the lunch food spread is out, I can't even imagine getting up to check out what they're serving lol. I've had a toasted raisin bagel with strawberry cream cheese, three cups of tea, a bag of salt and vinegar chips and ummm... oh, a few slices of watermelon and cantaloupe... arrgh!

I've never seen this lounge so crowded before. Annoying! I'm cranky... sleepy... looking forward to getting on the plane to catch up on the sleep I didn't get last night.

See all of you when we get to the Asian continent.

Sad Really...

This story is so sad on so many levels it's unreal; when I think about it, with the number of kids (like me) who leave home at a very young age to persue further education away from home, this could have happened to anyone! All it took was just one wrong turn...

How did a prodigy at 13, left her family and home country for the best education at the world reknown Oxford University (St Hilda's College), ran away from it all, went home to Malaysia eventually when they found her, returned again to Oxford, married a law student, divorced, dropped out of college again and ten years later, her 'super-brain' has gotten her nowhere but the laps of being a 'high class call girl'. Ok, I don't care what people say about street prostitution, high class this or that... at the end of the day, they're all doing one job and it's a far cry from being a graduate from Oxford U.

It's sad really, that at 23, she thinks she living the life of glamor. I don't know if she's just being naive that presents make for a happier life or she honestly believes what she's doing validates either her estrangement from her family, dropping out of school, the 'big bucks' she's making or what she calls, the 'best sex' she's having. Sure, people say it's a victimless crime, but these girls (well certainly this one in question) doesn't seem to even realize she IS the victim! Maybe in time, when she's matured, she'll realize what she's missed out in life (her family, her young life...). But from the interview (below) this fancy life she's painting for all the young girls out there watching is wrong and simply irresponsible!

No spammers please! I won't post your comments if they're brainless lol!

Back To Everyday Life In Seattle

Not too much exciting has been going on since we returned from our big Aussie trip. I mean, living in downtown Seattle on an everyday basis is fun on it's own so I can't complain too much.

It was nice to run to Target, Costco and Uwajimaya yesterday to get the house stocked up again. I don't know what was going on at Costco but it was accessively crowded and it was hard to find a parking spot like a weekend - arrgh! I should have waited for the husband since I could barely pick up the carton of bottled water and I sure couldn't even reach for the bloody watermelons let alone pick them up. Gotta' make another trip there when the king has some time to accompany me... I miss my watermelon juice and I'm sure he does too :)

I've just been meeting up with friends, making plans to meet up with more friends next week, running errands and surprisingly, cooking! Honestly, I did get tired of restaurant food in Australia even though it was very good Chinese food; I was ready for some home cooked food. Mom doesn't ever cook in Oz 'coz she's the kind of cook that makes a big mess and dad is the type who likes the place spotless (like me). So having to stomach the mess left by the kids already, I'm glad mom didn't attempt to make any of my favorite dishes 'coz the place would have been completely in chaos lol! My brother cooked a meal of pasta with scallops and rockets (arugula) and a mussels with white wine dish - a couple of my favorite dishes that he makes... he compared himself to Gorden Ramsey hahaha and we played along until he asked me to chop him more garlic 'coz he'd burnt the last batch I'd chopped LOL! Crazy brother of mine :) But yes, more cooking - I think the husband likes that I'm cooking again too. I know he certainly got enough of Chinese everything on this trip; although I do only make Chinese food at home, it's more home-cooked food.

It's a cloudy Wednesday morning (ok it's a little dark to tell but that's what the meteorologists just predicted) and today brings some excitement as I'm meeting a fun fellow Singaporean friend of mine in the International District. No specific plans but Connie and I always have fun chit chatting and laughing. Like me, she's a laugher :) I liked her the minute I stepped into her house a few months ago when she invited a bunch of people (strangers but all Singaporeans and/or Malaysians) over for Chinese New Year celebrations. Connie is ang moh (Caucasian) but born and bred in Singapore. Yes, you read right. We don't get much of local ang mohs back home (they're mostly expats) but we all know I meet the best of them lol! It's always fun to see her - I can't wait for her to move closer into the city so we can see each other on a regular basis hee hee. Then tomorrow, it's bowling with Julie and Eric - not our regular downtown Japanese Julie & her Eric but the other pair of Singaporean Julie and American Eric LOL! No wonder the husband gets a little confused sometimes...

Right, it's off to the kitchen to make some barley drink for my sweetie...

Kudos To Let Them Eat Cake In Melbourne

They certainly don't need my help for any advertisements but I just had to let all my friends & family who read my blog and all the people who will be googling them in the future know that they're awesome! The store is awesome and so is the service on and offline. Carmen, in particular! They're website doesn't have a bunch of pics nor information but I did do research on them online so I didn't exactly go into this blindly :)

I ordered two cakes for my nieces via the phone before I headed over to Australia and the cakes were not just beautiful, they were pretty darn delicious! No they aren't exactly cheap but most beautiful pieces of art aren't. You can even walk-in and have their awesome cupcakes and cookies (I'm quite sure I saw cookies) or buy ready made cakes to go which are beautiful as well. I missed doing so since we ran out of time but yes, definitely on my next visit I'm heading here to try more stuff.

Home In Seattle

It's been only minutes since we stepped back into our home and it feels pretty darn good! Sure I miss my nieces like crazy and I miss the sense of safety being around my parents... it's a different kind of safety as being with the husband... I can't really explain it. I mean, with mom I kind of feel like I have to take care of her but the many little things she does for me is priceless! I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. It makes me feel like a little girl being at home all over again. I enjoy that for short (very short) periods of time :)

But being back at my own home with my own rules, seeing my clean and very organized refrigerator, the no-mess, no toys in every corner of the apartment, I certainly am glad to come home to. I have to add, glass tables and kids just don't go hand in hand... dad didn't have grandkids yet when he furnished this place so it was impossible to stay clean. Even tho' on this trip I barely played maid to the family (tho' I did countless loads of laundry and did manual dishes a few times), I don't think the husband minded that at all. Previously, I guess I did go overboard with the cleaning; but with the kids around, I barely had time to play with them never mind clean the bloody apartment lol. It was nice to have my early morning hours hanging out with mom and catching up with news about relatives at home whom I care about dearly... sure gossips were included but it was just plain nice to be able to be with mom to make her happy just sitting next to her. I know 'coz... well I could just feel it.

What is up with my brother and his wife's body temperature?!?! They both seem to love playing homage to the bloody heater! I don't know why even tho' my brother was raised the way I was in the same houses and same temperature, he seems to have a different regular body temperature compared to mom, dad and myself. Both him and my sil loved turning on the heater up to 24 degrees and every time I walked into the apt, I would swear under my breath, turn off the heater, turn down the temperature and open the sliding doors to let in the cool sometimes cold breeze. Of course they would bitch and complain but majority wins. I am majority lol! I don't want my nieces to grow up loving hot weather LOL! Actually, Emma's already told me she hates the sun so that's one good direction as far as I'm concerned :D Sure she's three and she'll change before the next time I see her... but for now, she certainly is my own little mini-me and I absolutely adore her! Hannah is a happy little one year old who smiles constantly. She flirts with her uncle, the king, but once he holds her, she cries big fat tears. It's quite funny since the uncle wouldn't give in to tears :)

I'm glad we did this big trip to hang out with the family and I'm even happier that the husband survived it without much bruises. Sure there were moments of tension but it's all between the set of grandparents and the younger set of parents. Nothing the king nor I can help nor control. Of course I'm on my parents side but hey, I don't live in that household so I'm keeping (or I'll try as long as I can) to keep my lips sealed until I hear more from mom...

Overall a successful trip. I don't want to see peking duck or lobster noodles for awhile lol! Sushi for dinner tonight!!!
